Halloween is an un-holiday - untraditional, irreverant, unusual; full of BOOS and black cats.  A time to spend with family and friends; a excuse to dress up in ridiculous costumes and collect free candy! My first Halloween costume was one of those classic numbers you could get at the supermarket in the 60's. The kind with a plastic mask held on with a flimsy elastic cord.  I was so excited - it was a George Jetson costume - I was a weird kindergartner.

In the 1980's I had a "poodle perm" and not much money so I dressed up in a blue leotard (I was much thinner back then) and I sprayed my hair white and wore white socks - I was a Q-tip! I thought it was clever but most people just gave me a blank stare when I explained what I was. Did I mention I wore it for my whole shift at the local grocery store?

Lucky me! I am hosting an open house on Halloween and I can wear my latest, greatest costume - a Sandra D outfit from the Halloween Store. Poodle skirt and all - but no perm!

Happy Free Candy Day!
